LANDSCAPER SERVES UP GARDEN MAKEOVER FOR NONPROFIT EATERY

Thanks to a hefty helping of manpower and materials donated by a Daly City landscaper, outdoor dining at San Francisco's Einstein's Cafe is now a repast for the soul as well as the stomach. Voted best lunch spot by bayareacitysearch.com, Einstein's on Ninth Avenue now offers patrons a relaxing sun-dappled garden instead of a dark, gravel-covered slope under an overgrown canopy of redwood and acacia trees.

"A friend of mine who works at Einstein's asked if we could help design a garden area for the restaurant," says Kevin Burns, whose firm Maximum Service Landscaping recently received a Humanitarian Award from the California Landscape Contractors Association for the garden renovation. "I said we'd be glad to help."

Einstein's Cafe is one of three businesses operated by Golden Gate Community, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers vocational training to inner city youths and adults in recovery from substance abuse or homelessness.
Maximum Service Landscaping provided labor and materials for the eatery's garden as did several of the companyis vendors. A crew of GGCI volunteers pitched in to help, and Einstein's provided workers with a hearty lunch.
